Best Excuses for Missing Lessons
These are some of the best excuses I've had for students missing lessons. I shall undoubtedly be adding to this in the future.
They are all true. I have added only the initials of the student for anonymity.
- “sorry I slept in” - Common but this lesson was 2-4pm in the afternoon. (ML)
- “..Sorry I don’t think I’m going to make it. I was getting off the train when I realised I’d left my mobile phone on the train, so I got back on the train to pick it up. But before I could get off the train, it started going again, I tried to ask the guard to stop the train, but I couldn’t find the guard. Then at the next stop I forgot to get off, so I think I’m heading towards London… So I don’t think I’ll make it today… sorry…” (AP)
- “I’ve got to go to an audition for Big Brother. I’ve made it to the last 1,000” (AP)
- "There were 2 bees in my room so I was hiding under my bed. Then it was 11.15 so I thought there was no point coming 40mins late." (ML)
I'm sorry I didn't turn up, but the dog ate my stash of cannabis' (truly!).
Best Excuses for Not Doing Homework
- "I've been busy doing Geography coursework" (everybody) - this isn't so much an excuse as an inevitable daily greeting my students give me
- " I'm not going to lie to you - the truth is I couldn't be bothered" - the virtues of honesty
- " I couldn't do it!" - not very original
- " I left it at home " - Oh boy this is so poor.
Best Excuses for being late
" The yellow sign painted on the road outside the school said 'CHILDREN SLOW', so rushing wasnt an option!! "
" I didn't do my homework because I didn't want to add another work to your already heavy workload. "
" Its only a day late, if there is an infinite amount of time in the universe, then a day divided by infinity is nothing so its actually on time! " - maybe for Philosophy
