The "Athlete's" Hour Record 2000 - date

27 Oct 2000 Chris Boarman Manchester UK                             49.441
20 July 2005 Ondrej Sosenka (Cz)  Moscow                             49.700

In 2000 the UCI decided to bring in a radical change to the rules regarding the World Hour Record. They decided that any future attempts would have to use the same technology as the Mercks era, e.g. no tri bars, no disc wheels e.t.c. THis explains the huge drop in distance achieved by Christ Boardman.

(Although Merckx rode at altitude Boardman didn't)
