Richard's Cycling Clubs
Cycling Clubs
This year I am racing for Sri Chinmoy Cycling Team. We set the team up at the end of last year. We have affiliated to BCF and CTT for 2006 and so will have members participating in Road Racing, Time Trials, Cyclo Cross and hopefully the track.
In the US there are quite a few more riders. One or two riders are hoping to compete in the Race Across America RAMM I
Otley CC
This was my first cycling club I joined when I was 14. The main thing I enjoyed doing with Otley CC was the Sunday club rides. We would often do 100 + miles but take pretty much all day, with at least 2 or 3 cafe stops. It was a good way to see the Yorkshire Dales. This type of club run seems to be in decline, I guess people don't have enough time to spend all day on the bike (including me)
It was in Otley that I did my first race - the Otley Hill climb, I came pretty close to last and I didn't race a hill climb for another 13 years. In 2004 I came 4th, the event was won by Jim Henderson

Oxford University CC
At university I started to take cycling quite seriously and used to train quite regularly. I enjoyed the social aspect of the club and was treasurer for a year when Nick Pashley was President. This was also just before the time when Jim Henderson started to win the National Hill Climb championship. I only raced once or twice a few club 10s with no great distinction I always seemed to get injured before a race. After a serious illness I gave up cycling completely for nearly 6 years

Oxonians CC
After a long lay off cycling and an abortive attempt at trying to run (which resulted in a long knee injury) I finally got back into cycling in 2003.
In 2004 I joined Oxonians CC , which I am still a second claim member of. Oxonians organise a very good time trial programme. There are quite a lot of different races including a few sporting courses, which suit me. In my first year I won a couple of races including 2 place to place races - Oxford - Cheltenham and Oxford - Henley.
This year I came 2nd in the Oxonian hilly 31 mile and won the Oxonian 25 mile TT.

Bicester Millenium CC
I am a second claim member of Bicester Millenium CC. They organise a very good series of Time trials around Weston on the Green on Tuesday evenings. It is sometimes disrupted due to parachuting activities but its great to be able to race on roads with no traffic.
