An old Apple tree on the High Street, Oxford.

The pink blossom is quite a contrast to the rest of the High Street.

The tree contends with heavy traffic and exhaust fumes from local buses. It is being proped up. I don’t know how old it is; I don’t think Apple Trees tend to live as long as other varieties.

It stands to the south side of the University Church of St Mary’s.

This year the Blossom is a lot less and the tree is diseased. There is a plan to remove the tree and replace it with a new one. The tree has given a lot of joy to locals and tourists in Oxford, perhaps the constant fumes were a factor in its demise. But, I’m glad it will be replaced.

The Magnolia tree in the foreground is just coming into bloom.
