The National Botanic Garden of Wales is situated in Llanarthney, Carmarthenshire, Wales. It is towards the end of the M4 and took about 3 hours from Oxford. It is well worth a visit. I liked the wide open spaces, well designed grounds and interesting collection of flower, tree, building and nature. It has been designed to promote and educate about biodiversity and sustainability. The waste water is used to fertilise the plants!

We arrived early to set up the the 5km Peace Run race. Early morning is a good time for photos.

It was a great March morning, still, dry and a little bit of brightness.

Several lakes were still with the reflection of trees.

Daffodils in Flower

March isn’t the best time to visit any garden. But, the numerous daffodils help to highlight the national flower of Wales. The Great Glasshouse seamlessly blends into the landscape.

The garden is well designed with mixture of flowers, trees and local stone. A view over the double walled garden.

The trees were bare, but there is still a rugged beauty in the bare branches.

Stumpery

There is a great exhibition of tree stumps (Stumpery) which was taken from a rainforest in Ghana to highlight deforestation. I saw this stumpery collection outside the Natural History Museum in Oxford.

5km Peace Race

To co-incide with the arrival of the Sri Chinmoy Oneness-Home Peace Run through Wales, a 5km race was held with 60 members of the public braving the early morning to run 5km around the Botanic Gardens. rasmirvan
